Rajkot records 93.66% pass percentage in general stream
Rajkot: Rajkot city and district recorded 93.66% pass percentage in the general stream of Class 12, a slight improvement by 1.14% compared to last year.
The Gondal centre emerged as the state topper in the science stream, with an impressive 96.60% students clearing the exam, making it the highest-scoring centre in Gujarat in this category.
Among the city's brightest was Raj Parmar, a student of Modi School, who topped the board exams despite coming from a humble background. His father, Narayanbhai, runs a tea stall in Rajkot for the past 6–7 years.
"I scored a perfect 100 in accountancy, economics, and secretarial practice (SP) and commercial correspondence. I diligently completed all the day-to-day work assigned by the school and performed well in unit tests, weekly tests, and other exams," Raj told TOI.
Raj also shared that he used to help his father at the tea stall for 2–3 hours every day and spent around 6 to 7 hours studying at home. His success brought tears of joy to his parents, who expressed their happiness and pride, saying their son has brought honour to the family.
Another inspiring story was scripted by Dharmi Kathiriya, a student of Dholakiya School in the city, who secured 99.99 percentile in the general stream. She scored a full 100 marks in three subjects—SP and CC, accountancy and and organization of commerce (OC).
"I studied for 10 to 12 hours daily and also devoted 5 to 6 hours at school," said Dharmi. Her mother, Hina, was overwhelmed with emotion as she recalled losing her husband Bharat to Covid-19 pandemic in 2021.
"After his death, I was left with the responsibility of raising my both children alone," said Hina. "With the support of extended family, I could focus on their education. I started working from home doing imitation jewellry work, earning around Rs 300 per day," she said.
Also scoring a 99.99 percentile in the general stream was Rudra Nagaiya, who told TOI that he achieved perfect scores in Economics, statistics, and elements of bookkeeping and accountancy.
Rudra maintained a daily study schedule of eight hours at home and 5–6 hours at school. He credited his success to hard work, blessings from his parents, and support from his teachers.
"I want to clear the UPSC exams and become an IAS officer," he said.
