Type 1 diabetes clinics for children set up in all districts
Jaipur: As managing type 1 diabetes is quite challenging in children, the state govt has established dedicated clinics for it under Mission Madhuhaari in all district hospitals of the state. "We started it as a pilot project in Jaipur, Nagaur, Udaipur, and Jodhpur, and now all the district hospitals of the state have established these clinics," said Dr Sunil Singh, state nodal officer for Mission Madhuhaari, on Thursday.
These dedicated clinics provide children and adolescents with free essential supplies like glucometers, insulin, and glucose strips. Children also receive counselling on lifestyle changes to prevent the disease.
As the focus of the health authorities is more on the prevention and control of type 2 diabetes, which mostly develops in adults due to a sedentary lifestyle and other related causes, type 1 diabetes is not getting attention. In type 1 diabetes, the pancreas does not produce the hormone insulin or produces little insulin. In such a situation, the treatment of the patient is more challenging.
Type 1 diabetes can affect nutrition, bone growth, and intellectual development; it involves the nervous system, and it may affect the personal life and growth of the affected child, officials said. TNN
