For the third consecutive night, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small arms fire across the Line of Control in Kashmir, specifically in the Nowgam and Rampur sectors. The Indian Army retaliated effectively.
SRINAGAR: Pakistan Army posts resorted to unprovoked small arms fire across the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir for the third consecutive night on Saturday.
The firing was reported from the Nowgam sector in Kupwara district and the Rampur sector in Baramulla district of north Kashmir.
The Indian Army stated that they retaliated effectively with small arms fire.
“On the night of 26th-27th April 2025, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small arms fire across the Line of Control in the areas opposite Tutmari Gali and Rampur Sectors,” the Army statement said.
“Our troops responded effectively with appropriate small arms fire,” the Army said. No injuries were reported.
The fresh ceasefire violations along the LoC in Kashmir follow a series of measures taken by India in response to the Pahalgam terror attack in which terrorists killed 26 tourists in Baisaran meadow. The Resistance Front (TRF), linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the attack.
In the wake of the terror attack, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi assessed the situation in Kashmir on Friday. Srinagar-based 15 Corps Commander briefed the Army chief about the current security scenario, including Pakistan’s ceasefire violations in north Kashmir and other areas along the LoC, and the Indian Army’s measured response.
On Friday the Army Chief attended the meeting chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The meeting reviewed security mechanisms in place, various short-term, long-term measures and integration and coordination among the various security agencies.
