The Edmonton Oilers handed the Utah Hockey Club a convincing 7-1 drubbing, demonstrating their offence in a lopsided contest. But in the runaway action, one of the team's most reliable stars, Leon Draisaitl, surprisingly didn't even record a point, having his remarkable scoring streak come to an end dramatically. However, his coach, Kris Knoblauch, had all good things to say about him.

Leon Draisaitl gets close but comes up short

Coach Knoblauch praised the efforts of Draisaitl, noting the point to which he came in reaching his goal-scoring streak. “Leon could have had about five in the second period the amount of chances he had,” Knoblauch enjoyed the forward's aggressive forecheck.

Despite several scoring opportunities, Draisaitl was held scoreless for the first time in 18 games. A pointless outing is hardly worth raising an eyebrow to, but this one was far from routine. The German winger had an 18-game scoring streak going, placing him in exalted company in the NHL's history books.

Utah HC defence stands firm against Leon Draisaitl

Utah Hockey Club may have been outplayed on the scoreboard but seemed determined to win at least one, not letting Draisaitl extend his historic streak. NBC Boston's DJ Bean commented on their commitment to X, stating, “Credit to Utah. They’re getting the absolute bag beaten out of them but they will NOT Leon Draisaitl extend his streak.”

Draisaitl had already locked himself into the record books as the fourth NHL player in history to have registered an 18-game point streak with an assist on a goal scored by Corey Perry against the New York Rangers. This led him to join Wayne Gretzky, Paul Coffey, and Jari Kurri in this record. His bid to continue the streak and climb further into the record books was thwarted, however.

What lies ahead for the Edmonton Oilers forward?
While the conclusion of Draisaitl's scoring streak is infuriating, the commanding victory by the Oilers over the UtahHC proves that they are more than their top scorer.
