AGRA: A 40-year-old woman from Aligarh's Mandrak area who had eloped with her daughter's 20-year-old fiancé just nine days before their scheduled wedding appeared before police on Wednesday evening. The duo is also accused of fleeing with Rs 2.5 lakh in cash and jewellery. Both have been taken into custody, said police.
SP (Rural) Amrit Jain told TOI, "After a missing complaint was filed by the woman's husband, police teams were pressed into action. One team was looking for them in Bihar while the other was searching at the Indo-Nepal border."
CCTV cameras and call details were examined, said the SP, adding, "Meanwhile, the duo approached the Dado police station in the district on Wednesday." Further legal procedures will be taken accordingly, he said. The wedding of the woman's daughter was set for April 16, with preparations in full swing. On April 6, the groom-to-be left his home under the pretext of shopping for wedding attire.

Later that evening, he made a phone call to his father, saying, "I am leaving. Don't try to find me." Around the same time, the bride's mother also vanished without a trace. Initial disbelief gave way to shock as a subsequent investigation confirmed that the woman and her would-be son-in-law had absconded together.
Arvind Kumar, SHO of Mandrak police station, said, "The woman's husband had lodged a missing complaint. Now both have been found; both are adults. So, further action will be taken according to their statements."
A relative of the woman said the young man had started visiting the bride's house regularly and had gifted a mobile phone to his future mother-in-law. The two remained in close contact afterwards and were frequently in touch.
