It has been more than six months since the passing away of revered and very much loved industrialist Ratan Tata, but his name and his stories still bring smiles on faces. In a clip going viral on the internet legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan on his show Kaun Banega Crorepati was heard sharing stories from his interaction with the late industrialist. Sitting alongside filmmaker Farah Khan and actor Boman Irani, Mr. Bachchan reflected on Tata’s remarkable humility and simplicity. He narrated that years ago, he and Ratan Tata happened to be on the same flight to London. After landing at Heathrow Airport, Tata realised he couldn’t locate his aides and needed to make a phone call. Bachchan smiled as he recounted the memory. “He went into a phone booth, and I was nearby. A little later, he came out, walked up to me — and I still can’t believe he said this — ‘Amitabh, can I borrow some money from you? I don’t have money to make a phone call.’” Mr. Bachchan went on to share another story that beautifully captured the same spirit. A friend of his, who had attended a social event alongside Ratan Tata, was left astonished when the business tycoon turned to him and asked, “Can you drop me home? I just live behind your house.” The friend, stunned, later told Bachchan how unbelievable it was to hear someone like Ratan Tata casually ask for a ride, saying he didn’t have a car with him that evening.
It has been a while since Amitabh Bachchan has been seen on the big screen, his last release was the guest appearance in Rajinikanth ‘s Vettaiyan.
