After premiering at the 46th Moscow International Film Festival in 2024, Adim (Primitive) by independent filmmaker Amitabha Chaterji continues its festival journey. The film has now been officially selected in the competition category at the upcoming 26th Rainbow International Film Festival, London.
A psychological thriller, Adim explores the strained relationship of an urban couple in their 30s, grappling with a year-long disconnect in their physical intimacy. Hoping to rekindle their bond, they retreat to a remote hill station—only to encounter mysterious strangers who plunge them into a suspense-filled adventure. As the couple navigates both a treacherous jungle and their own emotional depths, the story unfolds with gripping intensity.

The film features an ensemble cast from Bengali theatre, led by Amrita Mukhopadhyay and Judhajit Sarkar, with Shreya Bhattacharya and Tathagatha Chaudhuri in pivotal roles.
Chaterji, known for his independent vision, has previously earned acclaim with his debut feature Ami O Manohar (Manohar & I), which won Best Debut Film at the International Film Festival of Kerala (2018) and Best Feature at the Pondicherry International Film Festival (2019). The film is set for theatrical release and was also featured in the British Film Institute’s 10 Great Films Set in Kolkata.
His second film, Into the Mist, a political satire, was showcased at numerous global festivals and bagged three international awards at Italy’s Sipontum Arthouse International Film Festival.
