Tonight, May 14, 2025, at 7:05 p.m. ET, Jordan Walker will take his position in centre field for the St. Louis Cardinals as the team faces off against the Philadelphia Phillies. After a scary knee injury in spring training, Walker has fully resumed his role as a lineup presence for the Cardinals. Based on his recent performances, highlighted by a massive two-run homer against the Phillies in a 7-0 win on April 13, he is back to playing with confidence and power.
Injury recap: Jordan Walker's spring setback
Jordan Walker's injury troubles began on March 4 in a spring training contest versus the Nationals, during his second season campaign. Pulling up with discomfort in the left knee while chasing a high fly ball in the outfield, he left for evaluation. The worry first was that he'd be out for the bulk of the season or the whole season, but that was not the case once the diagnosis came: nothing structurally damaging.
Good news came during the healing stage on March 7. Walker said he was "feeling good," but they shut him down for a week just to be sure it would heal completely and not be aggravated; the effort appears to have been worth it as he was able to resume activities shortly thereafter and return to the active roster by early April.
What Jordan Walker’s return means for St. Louis Cardinals
Keeping health and having Jordan Walker exercising will be great assets for the Cardinals. Walker has just turned 22 and is already developing into one of the more promising younger athletes in Major League Baseball. Offensively, his presence, combined with the improved fielding, added important depth to a St. Louis lineup.
Against stronger teams in the National League, like tonight’s Philadelphia, his presence probably will matter. Giving his young and inconsistent Cardinals team some runs to hit and some at-bats to enjoy would bring plenty of enthusiasm and experience.
As of May 14, there are no reports of setbacks or limitations affecting Walker's playing status. He shall be available and in the starting lineup with no restrictions. The fans at Busch Stadium and at home shall finally be witnessing Walker as he returns to action for the Cardinals in pursuit of another crucial win.
