Twitch is implementing major changes to its streaming platform this May to improve the overall experience of the viewers and content creators alike. A highlight change targets the way ads are displayed on their platform. A new feature, or rather a variant of the Hype Train event, is also in the works that gives users a significant discount. Furthermore, they have announced that they will be deleting older Highlights or Uploads from creators that have exceeded their 100-hour limit. This article will brief you on all the major changes being made to Twitch in May 2025.

Twitch to feature picture-in-picture ads

Twitch is planning to display ads on its live streaming content in a picture-in-picture format. This means that ads will no longer take over the entire live content, but instead appear as a small ad pop-up, which users will have the option to unmute if interested. The change is being praised by many, as viewers can continue to watch their favourite streamers without interruptions. Earlier, complaints were raised about the untimely appearance of ads taking over the entire screen, disrupting the viewing experience in crucial live moments. Twitch seems to be addressing this specific issue with these changes.

Twitch’s new Treasure Train feature will give a 35% discount on Tier 1 subscription bundles

Twitch’s Treasure Train feature is a variant of the existing Hyper Train event. It offers yet another way for viewers to support their favourite streamers and content creators. Being rolled out as an experimental feature, Treasure Trains will replace the Hyper Trains once every hour. Once the Treasure Train reaches level 5, viewers will be able to purchase a Tier 1 subscription bundle at a discounted rate of 35%. It is to be noted that Treasure Train discounts cannot be combined with other promotional offers. Furthermore, streamers can opt out of this feature from their creator dashboard.

Twitch to implement a 100-hour limit on Highlights and Upload videos, extends export deadline

Twitch has announced that there will be a strict 100-hour limit on Highlights and Upload videos in every channel. Streamers who already have saved content exceeding this limit are advised to export their Highlights and Uploads videos before May 19, 2025. After this date, Twitch will be deleting any content exceeding this limit.Twitch has rolled out some additional changes giving streamers access to enhanced tools to aid in this export process. These tools or upgrades include the following:
  • Enhanced download speeds
  • Bulk export option increased from 20 to 100 videos
